Was ist das!

We cooked today, really cooked! I know we are a generation of all things fast and all things fried but i was truely impressed with the dishes we made. The disadvantages with being in a foreign country and trying to cook is that fact that you cannot find a single familiar ingredient. Apparently food coloring in Germany is as scarce as Americans. I mean with a name like "Lieben Shmittle Fabba" its obvious why it wasnt listed above the isle in the super market.
To get the ingredients for "Mudpies" i had to ask around, the first woman i asked where there was food coloring i ended up with Hair Dye. I guess she no Speak English. In the end i found a substitute for coconut and some green food dye (to make grass).
I shared my childhood recipie with the German Balu's and Moglies, yes it was only pudding and cookies mixed together to look like mud and dirt but it was delicious. One of the kids, (who has never seen food coloring before! Decided to pore some in his mouth...His angry Balu (mentor) spent the remainder of a half hour trying to flush his mouth out because the green dye was so concentrated everything was green!!
Everyone loved the Mudpies and the proccess of breaking up the Grahmcrackers showed me how intense the German youth could be. By the end of the Mudpie demonstration the kids were chomping at the bit to get there hands on the pudding cookies and worms! I think i almost had an OCD heart attack during the process because it end up being a loud cacaphony of flying cookies, spilt cocconut, and multiple languages. In the end everyone ended up with Blue grass on top of their dirt and Grahmcrackers in their hair! I must have exclaimed "Was ist Das!!" 10 times. The German children are truely creative and messy!
The remainder of the food exposition was spent cleaning relentlessly and wrestling untill the sugar rush in the kids caused them to crash!...Germans may be able to handle their liquor but sugar is a completely different story!
