First day in Osnabruck

After the first full day in Osnabruck, I think it has finally settled in that I am in Germany. I have noticed many things today that I feel would be obvious and still shock me. The architecture here is incredible. Words cannot describe the majesty that some of these older building hold, especially the University building and the old cathedrals we explored. After hearing how cold and distant Germans can be, it has been refreshing and comforting to realize how nice they actually are. Many of them have been willing to take the time to stop and help us when needed, be it with serving food or asking for directions. The language barrier is something that I didn't realize would hit me so hard, but I think slowly but surely I have picked up a few words here and there. I have high hopes for this German language course, even though today it was exteremely difficult (I'm glad I didn't seem like the only one who was struggling). Dinner tonight in an authentic German restuarant was exectly the sort of experience I was looking forward to on this trip. Good food, good drink, and good friends. I hope to have many more experiences like this one in the coming days of my trip here.
