Sara Garcia's Post #3

In coming to Germany, I always thought that making close relationships
with other people our age was going to be difficult. I am a rather shy
person anyway, so to come to a country where my expectations were to
find it difficult to get to know some of the natives better was
definitely going to be a struggle. However, from the beginning I found
myself doubting that my hypothesis was correct.
From the moment we arrived, I found myself in a situation that was
quite funny. I was holding my video camera (Sony Bloggie) and the
person sitting across from me started speaking to Billy, Matthew, and
I in German, Polish, Spanish, and English. His name is Cristophe
Columbus. From the few things that we understood he said that we
shouldn't eat meat or any type of flesh but rather fruits and
vegetables.
Another example for which my hypothesis started looking like it was
going to be incorrect is when we met Verena's husband, Fabio, at the
Balu Und Du service learning project day. He welcomed us and invited
us to a place where we could all see the German culture for what it
is. From the moment we met him, he is always trying to make us feel at
home. I really appreciate all of the gestures he has had with us and I
deeply say thank you to him for giving us unforgettable nights of fun
and learning.
Everyone seems a little shy at the beginning but once you begin to
make a conversation and show that you are really interested, they will
open up and offer you more than you were expecting.
