The topic of American vs. the world is a comparison that is always on our minds. As a society that is driven by competition we wonder how different we are from our brothers across the pond? Since my presence in Germany I have come to the solid conclusion that we truly are no different. We have been praised by our German hosts for sharing their country with them. Someone even said now that we have seen the beauty we will be less likely to bomb it in the future. As a joke this is still very serious since ironically it bears some significance from the past. Back when the world wars were raging was it possible that if we knew more about the country were at war with we would have kept the peace? Since I have been here I understand how relations between the U.S and Germany could break down, I understand how things that we see as a joke could be misinterpreted by the German community as extremely rude. In the bible God took away the gift of many tongues from the people. The people in Germany all speak many languages and I feel like this makes this country seem much more peaceful. Is the gift of many tongues the key to world peace? I walk away from the past couple days seeking the language diversity in the U.S and the peace that accompanies it. We can be the Generation of Change.
